An introduction to Oadby Trinity Methodist Church

The Church is part of the Leicester Trinity Circuit in Oadby, which borders on the city of Leicester. The congregation is made up of a wide range of people, with varying backgrounds and occupations, with an age range of just a few months to over 90. We extend a warm welcome to anybody who wishes to worship with us, either as a visitor to the area, or as new members to our church.

There is a busy range of weekday activities at Trinity, both those directly associated with the Church and some which hire the premises. These include Scouts and Guides, an older teenage group known as Jenga, Badminton and Table Tennis groups and a large women's meeting (known as WOW (Women on Wednesday).

Various fellowship groups meet in homes during the week. The Church actively supports Churches Together in Oadby (CTO), Traidcraft and Bible Society activities within the CTO umbrella. A Coffee Morning with a Traidcraft stall is run every Saturday morning.

Church Membership and Attendance

The Church has a membership of about 220, but over 500 people, including young people and children, are associated with us and are all cared for by a pastoral system that is largely geographical and which places everyone in a group with a Pastoral Visitor, but with one group especially caring for newcomers.

As with most churches these days, because of families being widely scattered and with the style of modern life extending the scope of Sunday activities, our Sunday attendance varies from week to week in terms of who is present. However, morning services average about 130 adults and young people and the evening about 30 adults.

Style of Worship

Morning worship is normally quite busy, with young people leaving after the first 15 minutes or so for their own Junior Church groups, which range in age from 3 to 18 years in age. There is also a crèche for the youngest children.

One morning service each month is usually all-age, normally on the first Sunday of the month, and the Guides and Scouts parade on some 6-8 of these during the year. Morning services tend to be less formal than evening worship, with a wider range of music and activity, but preaching still forms an important part of these times of worship.

Evening worship is normally more traditional in format. Communion, normally using the forms found in the Methodist Worship Book, is an integral part of worship once a month each in the morning and in the evening. Additionally, on the first Sunday of each month a very quiet Communion Service is held at 8.30am.

About three times a year a joint evening service is held in one of the CTO churches and there are also evening Circuit services from time to time.
